Literacy

Thank you for your enthusiasm and support for your child’s ‘Book of Experiences’. The children are very keen to share these books in class and they are an excellent way of developing speaking and listening skills. The children are making good progress with Letters and Sounds (our phonics scheme) and are starting to use their knowledge of sounds in their reading and emergent writing. Please support your child by sharing their reading book and accessing the bugclub online. There are also some excellent phonic games available online at www.phonicsplay.co.uk
Within school, children will share a range of traditional stories and poems and will be asked to listen carefully and encouraged to ask and answer relevant questions. Children will also act  out stories using props made in class. Most children are now trying to write their name and other letters in cursive style. If you are unsure about our handwriting style and want to support your child at home please ask the class teacher about letter formation.
This term we will be looking at the season of Winter, alongside a range of traditional stories. The purpose of this newsletter is to give you information about the areas covered in the curriculum and to give you ideas for ways of supporting your child at home.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

To further encourage the children’s independence we would like the children to enter school via the main entrance in the mornings. They are becoming more confident at managing to put on their coats, changing for P.E.  and looking after their belongings. In the coming weeks we have planned activities aimed at helping the children to consider each other’s ideas and feelings and work together cooperatively.
We hope you find this information useful. We appreciate all the work you do at home with your child; it all contributes to their learning journey. If you have any questions at all please see your child’s class teacher.

Creative and Physical Development

Aside from regular PE and dance lessons the children also get the opportunity to move around and explore the outside area on a daily basis. They will refine their fine motor control and creative skills  through  using a range of media to cut, mould, model,  paint and draw things they have seen and done.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World

We will be encouraging the children to use their senses to explore the season of winter. They will look at the change in weather and how it affects their environment. The children will be using a range of ICT resources to support their learning across the curriculum. They will also be experimenting with different joining techniques such as staples, glue, paper fasteners etc...
