Of course it may not be possible to take part in either of these schemes but there are things you can do to help if you do use your car. Please do not park on the zig zag lines outside the school. This is a big problem we have as some drivers  insist on parking on the zig-zags  outside the gates. These lines are there for a reason, namely the safety of the children. It is also illegal to park on these lines and could result in a fine for the driver.
All of this I am sure you would agree is common sense but there is another consideration and that is our neighbours. We would ask that you do not block driveways to houses as that can be very annoying and no one would like it to happen to them
At present though, we do have a regular walk-to-school day - ‘Walk- on -Wednesday’. Quite simply this is when we ask that - if possible - you leave the car at home and walk to school.
We can tell you that the ‘Walk-to-School-Wednesday’ scheme has indeed proved very popular and we are very pleased with the response. We will certainly be continuing this initiative in the future.
Obviously the distance you have to travel would be a consideration, but if this helped to stop just a little unnecessary  car travel it will be worth doing. We are probably all guilty of using our cars when we could walk (I know I am) and this scheme could help prevent some pollution. Please support this idea as it would also cut down  the congestion in St. Crispin’s Road which you must agree can be considerable at times
As anyone who brings their child or children to school by car will know, St. Crispin's Road soon gets full up and it can prove hazardous at times to drive down the road or to walk down the road. It must be obvious to everyone that as it is a narrow road there is always a danger that an emergency vehicle such as fire engine or even an ambulance would not be able to get down the road.
This is a serious problem as young children, such as those who come to St. Crispin's school, could suddenly run out from between parked vehicles and there could be an accident. There have indeed been several near misses in the past.
With that in mind, we in St. Crispin's school have been working to try to devise a plan which if adopted by everyone, could make traveling to school safer and possibly even more enjoyable.
Most of  you will know by now that we would like to set up a “Walking Bus”. This is quite simply a group of supervised children walking to school. It is properly organised with the participants issued with yellow reflective jackets to wear. You can get more information regarding this from the office so there is no point me repeating it all. However it is fair to say that other schools have adopted this scheme with considerable success. You can also find out more by going  to the Kent Walking Bus Scheme web site at  www.kentwalkingbus.org
